Plainville Pump and Excavating is a full-service excavation contractor located in Plainville Massachusetts offering several services in the residential and commercial industry.
Whether you are a landowner looking to build a commercial space or a homeowner looking for a new septic system, we have the knowledge and experience to get the job done right. We take pride in our work and strive to keep up the great reputation that we have been building for over 75 years.
Started in 1950 by the late Ed Kettell, well and sump pumps were the backbone of the company. Ed was the president of the company, and his wife Dottie was the vice president. Dottie did much of the bookkeeping along with raising 5 children over the course of 13 years. In 1978 Ed passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Dottie then assumed the role of president and their son, Gary, at the age of only 18 became vice president. Within a few years Gary had grown the business to include excavating, which eventually became Plainville Pumps primary service. Over the years, and through Gary’s continued hard work and perseverance, the business grew into a full-service site excavation company.
Now in the third generation, Gary’s son, Joe, joined the business with his dad. Joe has always had interest in the business and had been working close with his dad since a young child. Joe graduated from Wentworth Institute with a degree in Construction Management and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the business. Using the knowledge of what he has learned over the years of working with his dad, as well as his schooling, he hopes to bring many more years of continued success to Plainville Pump and Excavating.
